  • Washington Post Editorial Board: A Shield From Lawsuits Could Help Our Schools Resume Teaching and Research
June 29, 2020

The Washington Post Editorial Board has called for colleges and universities to receive temporary and narrowly targeted liability protections against COVID lawsuits.

"Health measures to stop the spread of COVID have forced necessary but disruptive changes across U.S. society. One industry that has been considerably impacted is higher education. From online classes to canceled commencement ceremonies, spring semester of 2020 tested the resilience of colleges and universities as never before."

“Still, a shield from expensive and time-consuming lawsuits — temporary and narrowly targeted only to coronavirus-related complaints — would help our nation’s institutions of higher learning resume teaching and research, to the maximum extent state and local governments permit,” the Washington Post Editorial Board writes.
